Job Description

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Production Management:
    • Oversee and manage all activities in the Steel Melting Shop (SMS), ensuring smooth and efficient operations of the steel melting, refining, and casting processes.
    • Plan, coordinate, and supervise the production schedule to meet targets while maintaining quality standards.
    • Monitor the performance of electric arc furnaces (EAF), ladle furnaces, and continuous casting machines to ensure continuous production with minimal downtime.
    • Ensure that the steel melting shop operates within set parameters for temperature, quality, and safety standards.
  2. Operational Efficiency:
    • Optimize the steel melting and casting processes to improve productivity, reduce waste, and increase the efficiency of the production lines.
    • Implement and maintain lean manufacturing techniques and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the SMS processes and ensure compliance by the team.
  3. Quality Control and Compliance:
    • Ensure that the steel produced meets the required quality standards and customer specifications.
    • Coordinate with the quality control department to inspect products at various stages of production and ensure compliance with internal and external quality standards.
    • Monitor the chemical composition and physical properties of the steel and address any deviations in production parameters.
  4. Team Management:
    • Lead, train, and manage a team of engineers, operators, and workers in the Steel Melting Shop.
    • Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular team performance reviews, and implement training programs to enhance skill levels.
    • Foster a culture of teamwork, safety, and accountability within the production team.
  5. Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
    • Collaborate with the maintenance team to ensure that all equipment in the SMS is functioning optimally, including furnaces, ladle handling systems, and casting machines.
    • Proactively identify potential equipment failures and ensure timely maintenance to avoid production delays.
    • Handle any operational problems that arise in the SMS, troubleshoot, and implement corrective actions quickly.
  6. Safety and Environmental Compliance:
    • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and guidelines in the Steel Melting Shop to prevent accidents and injuries.
    • Conduct regular safety drills and training to ensure all staff are aware of emergency procedures and safety measures.
    • Comply with environmental regulations and implement practices to minimize the environmental impact of the production process, such as reducing emissions and waste.
  7. Inventory and Raw Material Management:
    • Oversee the management of raw materials, such as scrap metal, alloys, and other inputs to the melting process.
    • Ensure optimal usage of raw materials to meet production targets while minimizing excess inventory.
    • Work with procurement teams to ensure timely availability of materials without disrupting production.
  8. Reporting and Documentation:
    • Maintain detailed production reports, including daily production outputs, quality issues, downtime, and any operational challenges.
    • Prepare regular reports for management on production performance, cost efficiency, and any issues impacting production timelines.
    • Ensure proper documentation of all activities in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Key Skills Required:

  • Strong knowledge of steel manufacturing processes, including steel melting, refining, and casting.
  • Expertise in managing steel melting furnaces, including electric arc furnaces (EAF) and ladle furnaces.
  • Solid understanding of steel quality control, product testing, and metallurgy.
  • Excellent leadership, team management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and oversee the entire production process in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong focus on safety, compliance, and continuous improvement in production processes.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in a production or plant management role, particularly in steel melting or related industries.
  • Experience with continuous casting, scrap management, and quality systems in steel manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of industry safety standards, environmental compliance, and lean manufacturing techniques.
